One of my absolute favorite things to do while traveling, especially road tripping, is to visit roadside fruit and vegetable stands. They always have the freshest produce and some of the quirkiest souvenirs you can find. At this stand, I bought two pumpkins, duh, a basket of freshly picked nectarines, a sachet of rose buds, and a sage stick gathered and assembled by a woman of the Dakota tribe. The owners were very cordial. They threw in a lot more nectarines than I originally picked because I couldn’t stop raving about how much I adore nectarines. If you’re timid about approaching locals when traveling, this is a good place to start. Bring cash. They almost always only accept cash.
What’s your best find at a fruit and vegetable stand?
Kindly,
Mae
