Autumn Details

One of my absolute favorite things to do is to decorate for autumn/Halloween, heavy on the Halloween. M and I have an agreement that I can indulge in my love bordering on obsession starting September 15. I would love to tell you that I held out, but the dollar spot at Target and kitschy Halloween thrift store finds make this agreement nearly impossible for me. This year I was going through some rough emotions, so I got out the decorations a few days earlier. Honestly, little trinkets have been popping up around the house since late August 🙂 Here are some of the decorations around my house that are giving me liiiiiiiiife.

Usually I covet all bright colors, especially in a rainbow pattern; however, this year I’m finding the elegance in understated pieces like white figurines. It feels a lot less overwhelming and allows my favorite colorful pieces to catch the eye first. I’m all about balance this season.

Got this ghosty (my favorite Halloween word) at a thrift store for $.99.

We turned our books around to let our seasonal decor dazzle. I kept it simple on the actual book shelf instead of allowing the rainbow of dust jackets steal attention. I wanted the bookshelf to remain somewhat neutral. Got those ghosty (there it is again) candle stick at the same thrift store also for $.99.

Okay, this dude looks a hell of a lot creepier when photographed. The skull is a candy bowl/planter from Target. M and I laughed endlessly when we had the idea to put one of the awful wigs I have on it. You have to go reach past the hair to get to the goodies inside. This might be too creepy to keep. Yeeesh. He’ll be the actor starring in your bad dreams (we can be best friends if you got that reference).

Another $.99 ghoul from a thrift store. But this one has a toupee (?), so he is the best decoration we have, hands down.

Happy autumn decorating, friends!

  1. I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?

Hi Everett. Yes, I’ve actually had a few layouts before this, and I’ve been thinking about changing it recently. I would be happy to include more images. Thank you for your feedback!
