We’ve heard for years, or at least I have, that we should be reaching for more substantive compliments that do not include how someone looks. Why? People are so much more than that. And the compliments tend to box people in to what the complimentor values such as thinness or “classic beauty”.
Okay, so what are compliments that dig deeper than, “I love your outfit!” or “You look so thin!” ? Here’s a list I came across the other day to get us started:

Take any of these, apply with genuineness and we’re half way there on the journey to create a less appearance based society. Well, it’s a step in the right direction, anyway.
