Now several seasons in, The Great British Baking Show is on Netflix. When I feel sad, overwhelmed by our world, anxious, annoyed, any negative feeling really, as soon as I turn on this show, every worry seems to dissipate. By the end of the episode, I’m smiling. For some reason, it makes everything feel like it’s going to be alright. It’s one of those safety blanket shows where I know the format, what’s going to happen, and I expect the awful and weird dad jokes that have permeated the show. I do love dad jokes, but these just make me cringe.
Other than that, I love everything about it. The judges are honest yet jolly, and the contestants help each other when they can which is something you would NEVER see on an American competition show. After all the divisiveness billowing through our country, it’s nice to see a comradery, even between competitors.
They also have a holiday edition which feeds my need for holiday magic better than any other show.
